1. Overview
Halifax Live Comedy Club ("Halifax Live", "we", "us", "our") operates the website halifaxlive.ca and sells tickets to live comedy events at 1575 Argyle Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. We handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and other applicable privacy laws.
By using our website or purchasing tickets, you consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information as described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
Information you provide to us:
- Order information — your name, email address, phone number, and billing details when you purchase tickets or gift cards. Payment card details are collected and processed directly by our third-party payment processor; we never see or store your full card number.
- Account information — your name, email address, and password if you create an account, along with your purchase history.
- Communications — information you provide when you contact us by email, submit a contact form, leave a review, or sign up for our newsletter.
Information collected automatically:
- Usage and device data — IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and referring pages, collected through cookies and similar technologies and through analytics services.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Process your orders and deliver tickets, confirmations, and receipts to your email address.
- Communicate with you about your order or the events you are attending, including cancellations, reschedules, and important show updates.
- Respond to your questions and support requests.
- Send marketing emails — such as show announcements and presales — where you have consented to receive them.
- Operate, maintain, and improve our website and services.
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
- Comply with legal obligations, including tax and accounting requirements.
4. Email Communications
We send two kinds of email. Transactional emails — order confirmations, tickets, receipts, and event-critical updates such as cancellations or schedule changes — are a necessary part of fulfilling your purchase and are sent to all ticket buyers. Marketing emails — newsletters, show announcements, and offers — are sent only with your consent, in accordance with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link included in every marketing message, or by contacting us at info@halifaxlive.ca. Unsubscribing from marketing does not stop transactional emails related to orders you have placed.
Email delivery can be affected by spam filters and blockers outside of our control. If you do not receive an order confirmation, please check your spam and junk folders and contact us as soon as possible so we can re-send your tickets — see our Terms of Service for details.
5. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share it only in these circumstances:
- Service providers — companies that perform services on our behalf, including payment processing, email delivery, website hosting, and analytics. These providers may access personal information only as needed to perform their services and are required to protect it.
- Legal requirements — where required by law, regulation, court order, or other legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Halifax Live, our guests, or others.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of all or part of our business, in which case personal information may be transferred as a business asset subject to this policy.
6. Cookies and Analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep your cart and session working, remember your preferences, and understand how visitors use our website so we can improve it. Analytics services may collect information such as your IP address, device type, and pages visited.
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies through their settings. If you disable cookies, some features of the website — such as checkout — may not function correctly.
7. Data Retention
We retain personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including to fulfill your orders, maintain business and tax records as required by law, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When personal information is no longer required, we securely delete or anonymize it.
8. Security
We use reasonable physical, technical, and administrative safeguards to protect personal information against loss, theft, and unauthorized access, use, or disclosure — including encryption in transit (HTTPS) and restricting access to personal information to those who need it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Your Rights and Choices
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you and ask how it has been used and disclosed.
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal information.
- Withdraw your consent to our collection, use, or disclosure of your personal information, subject to legal and contractual restrictions and reasonable notice.
- Request deletion of your personal information, subject to our legal retention obligations.
- Unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@halifaxlive.ca. We will respond within the timelines required by applicable law. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
10. Children's Privacy
Our website and events are intended for adults. Most of our shows are restricted to guests aged 19 and over, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. International Transfers
Some of our service providers — such as payment processing, email delivery, and hosting providers — may store or process personal information outside of Canada, including in the United States. While in another jurisdiction, personal information is subject to the laws of that jurisdiction and may be accessible to its courts, law enforcement, and government authorities. We use contractual and other safeguards to require comparable protection from our providers.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be posted on this page, and your continued use of the website after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
